The old neighborhoods

Old Southwest and South Roanoke are full of oaks, maples, and poplars that were mature before most of us were born, planted along streets laid out when nobody imagined the tree would end up sixty feet over a slate roof. Beautiful, and worth keeping, and worth having somebody look at honestly every few years rather than after something falls.

The same is true through Raleigh Court, Wasena, and Grandin Village. Older housing stock, narrow lots, big canopy, alleys behind the houses that a truck may or may not fit down. Access is a real variable here in a way it isn't in a newer subdivision, and it changes how a tree has to come down — and what it costs.

The hillsides

South Roanoke runs up toward Mill Mountain and gets steep quickly. Slope changes everything: how a tree gets rigged down, whether equipment can reach the work at all, how a bank gets mowed, and where debris can be staged for loading. Trevor looks at all of that in person before he prices a job, because on a hillside a job that looks simple from the street often isn't.

What's different from up the valley

Roanoke sits about a thousand feet lower than Blacksburg, and it's warmer. Spring comes earlier, the growing season is longer, and summers are harder on fescue. Lawns here fight more heat stress in July and August. It's also low enough for kudzu, which does not really bother Christiansburg but absolutely does show up on Roanoke Valley fence lines and bank edges.

Scheduling

Roanoke is roughly forty minutes from Trevor's home ground, straight over on I-81. That's an easy run for tree work, removals, cleanups, and hauling, and it works fine for lawn care too — it just means the schedule is set in blocks rather than scattered across the week.
